Stratheyre Cottage is located just 7 miles from the small town of Portree the capital of the island and situated on the east side of Skye.
Portree was created as a fishing village at the beginning of the 19th century around only 200 years ago. It has a harbour fringed by cliffs, with a pier designed by Thomas Telford.
Attractions in the town include the Aros centre which celebrates the islands Gaelic heritage and the Royal Hotel, which is the site of MacNab's Inn, the last meeting place of Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746.
